My friend is a new birder who woke up to an unexpected visitor in his yard this morning. He noticed an unfamiliar bird and after a bit of research he determined that he had a Pine Grosbeak. He emailed me to tell me about it and I was skeptical, but after he described it and then sent me a pic I was convinced. I guess with this weather, life in the sub-alpine must not be very pleasant, so this gal decided to come down into the valley floor to feast on Japanese Plum buds. According to the season status list for the valley, this species is not seen every year, so my friend was pretty excited about this find. The bird has been there all day so far.
He lives in the vicinity of Prince Charles elementary. He didn't want to give his address because he and his wife are expecting a baby in a few days and they need their privacy.

Great species down here, Harrier! Thanks for sharing. I fully understand and support your friends for declining to give their address.
Thank them for sharing the photo of a great backyard visitor!
Thanks for sharing,

It is a very good species for the area! Even areas within our checklist where they can be seen, such as Manning Park, they can be hard to find at times. Great yard bird!

Fantastic find for around here. I think the last one from Abbotsford was one Terri had in her backyard also around the same time if I remember right.
Also, to echo Dave's comments, certainly no worries at all in terms of private property. The site's guidelines takes this into consideration:
7. Persons reporting interesting birds on private property should not feel obligated to disclose addresses or otherwise feel uncomfortable with people possibly driving by to have a look for the bird. Opportunities for members to also have viewing opportunities is entirely up to each individual but can be a rewarding experience. On the other hand, the site is just as excited to simply hear about your sightings as well, if that is more suitable for you.
8. Unsolicited requests to visit a private property to see a bird, through this forum or by other means, is not permitted. Unless the property owner extends an invitation, it will be assumed that viewing opportunities are not available.
