Stopped at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve for a little walk to see what's around and to see if Im lucky and find something cool like a black phoebe since the habitat is excellent for such a bird. Highlights was a peregrine falcon that blasted over. It had several primaries missing on its left wing. A male western tanager was singing out in the open on a snag. Perfect digiscope opportunity, but it was warm out and I was lazy so I left the scope in the trunk of the car. Two female common mergansers were out in front of the interp centre. I dont often see them in the summer time/ breeding season. Things were pretty quiet, but it was pretty hot out as well. Might get up early tomorrow when bird action is much more intense. p.s. I didnt see a black phoebe. but if I stayed in the hot sun for much longer, I bet I could have seen a great many interesting things.
