Yesterday, May 8th, on the way to Chilliwack from Harrison I birded the slough area north of the Fraser River. It was pretty quiet, but I saw an AMERICAN kESTREL gliding over a culitivated field. Very quickly a PEREGRINE FALCON appeared out of nowhere to make a pass at the Kestrel. The Kestrel just did a mid air flip, dodged the take down, and proceeded to cruise the field, as if being charged by a Peregrine was an everyday occurrence. I had a meeting at school last evening, and on the way home in the gathering dusk, literally hundreds of VAUX'S SWIFTS were hawking over the Seabird Island Slough. With so many, they must have been part of a migrating flock, fueling up before heading north/and or East. You gotta love Spring birding. Thor
