Does anyone know if the Harrison Bay area is open to hunting? I was under the impression that it was considered a refuge to protect the wintering swans. Last week a floating hunting blind was there with many goose decoys in place. The hunters fired off many rounds and later posted the photos of their kill to a hunting website. Among the victims were at least one Mallard, a female Common Merganser, and several Green-winged Teal. It seems they didn't have much luck with the geese.

Murray, Harrison Bay is open for hunting. However, mergansers, including Common Mergansers, are not. Certainly worth passing it along if members among that hunting website have not already. I know the ethical hunters abhor illegal things like that.
Personally, given the ecological significance of Harrison Bay and the nearby Chehalis Estuary, I think that hunting should not be occurring.

Thanks Gord. It's disappointing to hear that it's allowed. It only takes a few shots to scare them off for many weeks.
I wonder who one could contact to do some lobbying?
