Went for a drive down the west side of the canal from Keith Wilson Bridge in the warm and sunny afternoon for a look and to get some pictures of a goose on a nest. This area was very busy with tons of dirt bikes, ATV's and trucks ripping around. What a racket! I saw a small flock of gulls in the canal and saw it contained a few mew gulls and one california gull. Managed a quick few shots before some kids playing in the water spooked them.
After a brief but entertaining encounter with a couple who had far too many Lucky Lagers I went down past the highway bridge to check on the goose nest. The hot weather sure brings them out! A topless woman (I guess that's legal now?) roasting hotdogs didnt make me dragging out a spotting scope, camera and binoculars look that great, and I noticed her man kept a close eye on me and I guess I cant blame him.
I managed a few shots...of the goose on her nest and took off before things got even more crazy.
The cliff swallows that have a colony under Highway #1 bridge were there in full force.
Back on the dyke on my way home I saw two gulls in the canal. One turned out to be an adult western gull, and I had suspicions about the one in the background being a western as well. I didnt get very good pictures of it before an ATV got too close.
Aside from everyone acting funny in the warm weather, it was nice outing although I didnt see that much.
