This afternoon at Cheam Lake I thought I heard a Northern Waterthrush singing a couple times. I've only heard them for the first time earlier this summer, so I was not sure. I didnt have much time, but I played the cd from my vehicle to refresh my memory. It sounded good, and the bird sang back after I played it. I did not have time to see if it would come up for a viewing. It was in the bushes where the catbirds were earlier. This is the second sighting at the park since the late Steve Cannings had one in August in 2000. I have fond memories of birding outings with him and of the things I learned.
Also of note is a pair of Merlin hunting dragonflies yesterday evening when there for a family walk. The notable size difference when they sit near each other suggests a female and male (with the female larger as per raptors!).
