Dian and I are house sitting in Campbell River. We are also checking for reports of the Bristle-thighed Curlew reported in Tofino so we can take off at a moments notice. Meanwhile here are some birds seen today; Marbeled Murelets (adult and young I think) Brown Creeper Peregrine Falcon A pod of Orcas went past the town last evening but just out of camera range.

the photography here is always first rate, amazing. Thanks Ziff. There are so many good subjects to shoot here. Here is a Common Nighthawk seen last evening on the Campbell River pier. Not an easy bird to photograph.

Fantastic photos. That falcon is amazing. I really like how the golden light from the setting sun falls on the nighthawk that you somehow got into focus. Did you use spot focusing or points (however many your camera has)? Keep them coming!

Fantastic photos. That falcon is amazing. I really like how the golden light from the setting sun falls on the nighthawk that you somehow got into focus. Did you use spot focusing or points (however many your camera has)? Keep them coming! I don't have my manual with me to know the proper term but I use a spot focus with 4 extra points around it to catch motion. I think it is called area focus. I also start shooting when I think the bird is in range and I don't stop until it is out of range. The camera takes 8 shots a second so it isn't difficult to take 30-40 pictures as a bird passes by. One of them is usually a keeper if I have the ISO, shutter speed, exposure compensation and white balance right. I have to admit I am getting addicted to flight shots. Here are a couple more taken yesterday; Bonapartes Gull And another Eagle. They are always presenting great photo ops here.
