My husband and I walked over to the Chehalis River this afternoon, partly because we figured it was the last chance to do it as the water should be starting to rise soon and partly to practise digiscoping with our new set up (Celestron Ultima 100 Scope, Panasonic Lumix camera and adapter). The digiscoping was a failure but the birding was fairly successful, the highlite being spotting a Townsend's Solitaire ;D. Other birds seen were: In the duck department, lots of Green Wing Teal in the shallow water, in the Chehalis there were at least 40 Common Merganser and almost as many Common Goldeneye plus a few Hoodies. Robins and Song Sparrow were everywhere, also a few Red Wing Blackbirds. Saw a couple of Marsh Wren and heard more. There was a Yellowlegs on the shore when we were starting out, not sure if it was a Lesser or a Greater, didn't get a great view. Saw 3 Killdeer and flushed a Snipe, also saw one Heron flying. Saw 1 adult Bald Eagle and a few Tree Swallows. We'd hoped to see some Mountain Bluebirds but we've either missed them (have seen them out there in March before) or maybe they didn't go through this way this year. Kathy

Sounds like a great little trip. This is when I expect to see a mountain bluebird as well. Look forward to hearing about your digiscoping set up and seeing some results! Sounds like you got some good new toys.
