Read an article today saying that, mostly, the North American population is on a fairly serious decline. Since it's an introduced species that impact native birds and make a mess at our feeders, I have mixed feelings about this. One scary thought is why are they declining? If it's just balance finally occuring in the North American ecology (native birds have finally learned to adapt and thrive with a species that was thrust upon them way back when) then that is good and this 'decline' is likely only a return to a more sensible number of house sparrows, probably what one might see in their native land. But if it is some other factor, perhaps native birds are next in line? Read the article. www.cbcunlocked.com/artman/publish/article_482.shtml
