Here's a summary of what I saw yesterday on my travels. In the morning on Evans Road, a big movement of gulls were seen. Over 80 California gulls, 50+ ring-billed gulls and 20 mew gulls were seen among some real nice looking adult glaucous-winged gulls, and a few hybrids. Not very many juvenile gulls of any species. This field, freshly plowed, was dominated by the first three species of gull I mentioned. Obviously a flock on its way though. Out at Thompson Park on the Chilliwack River, I saw two brown creepers up close. No camera. Also a half dozen tree swallows, and a couple violet-green swallows too. Cheam Lake also has some changes. The ring-necked ducks and lesser scaups are fewer in number now. Exciting ducks was the male redhead, and a pair of Eurasian wigeon! I saw the female first by the 'warmer' brown head and was suspicous, and then saw the male and watched the two interact closely. Two ducks interacting together does not always mean same species, but between the two clues, I think they were. There were also about a half dozen tree swallows flying around, and a fox sparrow that was partially albino judging by pure white feathers on his back and rump. On my way home, I stopped to look at the flock of gulls again. It had changed from the morning. There were over 100 mew gulls, 40 ring-billed gulls and about 20 California gulls.
