First day of spring and finally some Tree Swallows have shown up way later than last year. There were 2 pairs at Eagle Point today and both pairs weren't wasting any time, but had each laid claim to nesting sites in the old piers. I'll be able to keep an eye on the sites and see how things develop. Also today saw 3 Gold-crowned Sparrows over there, the first since they migrated through last fall. Must have been a hundred or more Junco's - they were everywhere! And I'm seeing all kinds of Song Sparrows, Towhee and Robins. On the shoreline there have been a number of Killdeer in the area the past little while, usually down on the rocky shore and you have to sit and watch for a while before you can even spot them. Today there was one Great Blue Heron as well. In the water, not much, not much water and not much in it - a few Mallards, some Buffle Heads, mainly Green-wing Teal and occasionally a Common Merganser or two. Most days now I'm seeing a few Canada Geese in the general area. Kathy We're still waiting for our first Hummingbird over here. Again, much later than last year (11th) - in fact if they don't show up tomorrow it will be the latest 1st sighting since I moved here.
