We saw a Belted Kingfisher take a small fish at Mill lake and a few minutes later watched a Green Heron fly along the same route as the Kingfisher in the middle of a busy Friday, Sept.22, afternoon at the lake.
Birds seem to becoming more 'domesticated' in urban areas.

Nice find on the green heron! A birder at work saw one at another urban lake, more of a pond actually, probably hence the name "Salish Pond" a couple days ago.
Love watching those little herons hunting. Apparently, they sometimes use 'bait' such as little berries or small sticks dropped on the water's surface to attract small fish closer. From what I read, this has only been observed in green heron populations in Japan to date but keep our eyes open for it to happen here!
