I often see groups of a hundred or more gulls heading away from Harrison Lake in the morning and heading back in the afternoon. The one or three that hang around during the day are usually Glaucous-winged or occasionally Mews. This morning about 8:10am about a kilo offshore of the hotspring source about 100 gulls were circling while few dozen stayed on the water, almost like a twister. They then flew high overhead east to Bear Mtn., circled for awhile then headed off. Later that morning they returned and settled on the water with the group that didn't fly off. Got a couple of quick photos. they seemed to be mostly Mews, but I'm not sure about the last photo.

They look like Mew Gulls to me, but I am not great at identifying gulls though.

I think the first photo is of California Gulls judging by the extensive black on the wingtips. The rest are indeed Mew Gulls. Neat how the last photo shows the extremes in black in the wingtips. Good work!
