Hello fellow birders. Got out for a couple of hours on Sumas Flats this morning before the serious rain hit. Lots of Trumpeter Swans around and hundreds of ducks and Geese (Canada and Cackling) in the flooded fields. Among the many American Widgeon along Angus Campbell Road was at least one Eurasian. Along the flooded creek beside Whatcom Road south of Vey, in a mixed flock of small birds there were 5 Yellow-rumped Warblers and an Orange-crowned (also a fly over Sharp-tailed Hawk with a bird in its talons. My feeder watch weekend (yesterday and today) produced more species than I have ever had in a weekend before: Downy Woodpecker, N. Flicker, North-western Crow, Steller's Jay, A. Robin, Varied Thrush, E. Starling, C.B and B.C. Chickadee, S. Towhee, Song Sparrow, D.E. Junco, House Finch, A. Goldfinch, P. Siskin, House Sparrow (and while I was at Hue Mackenzie's Celebration of Life, Marilyn added Bushtit!). Good birding everyone. John Vooys P.S. I added Western Grebe (found on Mill Lake on the 18th) as my 143rd bird for my Abby big year.
