This must be the year of the Snow Goose. First, John's sighting in Abbotsford. Then Brent's in Harrison, and today in the early afternoon were 19 Snow's with approximately 200 Lesser's and Cackler's on a gravel bar on the Fraser River.
This has become a popular loafing bar for the small Canada's that have been present in the upper valley for about 2 weeks. It is situated about a 1/2 km. downstream from the end of Tuyttens Road in Agassiz.
Previously, the furthest I have ever seen Snow Geese up the valley were 3 birds around Mission about 5 years ago.
I tried to find a White-front or two in the flock but with bino's. it was just too much of a stretch.

The only time I've seen a snow goose at this end of the valley was in the cornfield just inside the dyke at by our place in 2003.

Murray, I think that's the highest number for this end of the valley by a long shot. Right on! Would have been neat to get a white-front in there for four species of goose! Keep an eye for a Ross's Goose.

Actually that's a good suggestion Gord. It hadn't occurred to me to look that closely. There was a Ross's seen down at Reifel with thousands of Snow's last week. Also there among them were two dark morph (blue) Snow Geese. Maybe I'll take the scope over there today.
Thanks for the report on the 2003 bird Kevin.
