A few Warbling Vireos around lately, and the occasional Red-eyed, but this one drew my eye this morning. The eyebrow, and darker lore drew my eye as well as a bit more yellow than I usually see on a warbling V. Could it be my first Philadelphia? P.S. Trying out my new D60 and an "entry level" telephoto (plan to upgrade next year).

Kevin, congrats on the camera! Already bearing fruit! You're going to love it. Checking out your vireo, I think you have a brighter Red-eyed Vireo there. The bill looks a bit hefty and good for a Red-eyed. Body is also lanky looking where a Philly would look stubbier with the shorter tail, bill (sometimes when compared to Warbling) and general body shape. Watch for yellow throat and breast and beware that our Warbling Vireos can be very bright here in the West! The throat is the place to look at along with the face pattern. Warbling can be bright, but not in the throat area. Bruce and Joanne captured some great shots of a Warbling Vireo that illustrates it very well. Just past half way through their journal they can be found. www.butterflyonmyshoulder.ca/Journal/08_09/08_09-11.htmCertainly in the right ball-park for watching for a Philadelphia though! Good work!

Nice photo Wetlander. Don't want to sound stupid but what is a shew? You certainly do get great sightings. That Merlin on your TV antenna is super!

Oh! Thanks Bruce & Joanne for spotting the Typo! I've changed it... I meant Smew! Boy, I must have been thinking "shrew" or something, or maybe half asleep... P.S. Gord figures the lake would be good spot to see such a rarity, if it ever blows through...

Oh! Smew! Ha ha! We understand now. Couldn't figure out what a shew was! We hear that your cousin has some great Aussie bird shots! Lucky!
