Well today the family decided to take a day trip through the area that leads to Princeton to Merritt. Although it wasn't a birding trip I did manage to see quite a number of birds as well as some lifers.
When going through Manning Park we managed to see this guy
Just before Princeton I started looking at fence posts in search for my elusive Mountain Bluebird. Well I finally saw them as there were two on a nesting box. What beautiful birds and a lifer for me.
Our first stop was at Allison Lake probably 15 km outside of Princeton on the way to Merritt. Of note on the way there I saw quite a few Western and Eastern Kingbirds. Allison Lake picnic area had quite a few birds. We were only there for 20 minutes and I amaged to see Goldeneye not sure what kind as they were far out, Common Loon, Spotted Sandpiper, Chipping Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow, Western Tanager, Cedar Waxwing, Red-naped Sapsucker and Hairy Woodpecker. Also this guy which I believe is a Townsend's Solitaire but not certain.
Our next stop was Kentuck Alleyene Provincial Park. Would have loved to stay there longer but did manage to see a Vesper Sparrow a lifer for me.
We continued along and in Aspen Grove area I saw about 20 Yellow-headed Blackbirds another lifer for me.
Lac le Jeune was our next stop. I remember going there when I was wounger but since then the Pine Beatle has taken a toll on the area and even in the campsite. There used to be conifers in the campsite but in some areas all there is is deciduous. I did manage to see another lifer a Pygmy Nuthatch along with these guys. I think it was two families ombined together because they had about 12 young ones.
I accomplished getting two of my most wanted species on this trip. This area is very pretty and if given more time could have seen a lot more than I did. The Pine Beatle has taken a serious toll on a lot of the forest area. I do not know how they will ever stop it because it's all over the place and it's sad to see.
