I noticed a bird at our back yard feeder that I have never seen before. It had a big white spot on the lower back and had bold colours. It was slightly larger then a sparrow. Olive green colour, and yellow/orange. It also had a white ring around the eyes ( If I am not mistaken, was a bit of a distance) Any idea what bird this is?

Hello and welcome 'guestwithquestion'.
Hmm...sounds challenging. My first thought is Evening Grosbeak. It has a 'big white spot' when the wings are folded in, has bold colours, larger than a sparrow, olive green with yellow, but no eye ring.
I really don't know what else would have a 'big white spot on the lower back'. The rest of the description produces many options, but not many birds would show a big white spot.
Maybe others have more ideas...

I think Dave is probably right with Evening Grosbeak. The right time of year for them to be prowling around and maybe coming to new backyards.
Thanks for your question!
