Hi- We had a new visitor to our backyard feeders just now. I only managed to take one photo- please excuse the poor quality. How common are Chipping Sparrows in our area? ps I just previewed the photo... I can't seem to be able to post a larger photo even though I selected 17" screen this time!?

Looks like a Chipping Sparrow. There was one in my back yard today too as well as White-crowned, Golden-crowned, Lincoln's, Savannah and Song Sparrows. Must be migration time!. I usually see the Chipping Sparrow and the others listed above in Harrison every Spring. Down at the lagoon there was a flock of Vesper Sparrows as well as a Lincoln's. If I count the House Sparrow that was in my back yard, that's eight species of Sparrows in one day just in Harrison.

Deb, excellent! Wow, your yard is just amazing! As Janne says, migration is most common to see them around here. They do breed in our checklist area. The closest Ive had them breeding is at Spuzzum Creek. Seem to be common breeders in Boston Bar area.
Janne, how many Vesper Sparrows did you have? Cool you had a Chipping Sparrow as well!
