Hello Birders A recent US goverment report has been released on the state of the birds in North America. Highlights include- Of the 800 species of birds in NA- 1/3 are endanged/ threatened or in significant decline. Due to habitat loss, invasive species & other threats. This only adds to the audabon report last year- that bird populations had declined 40 to 80% in the last 20 years. I have included the website- I encourage all birders to read this report. www.stateofthebirds.orgOne positive note is they found that anywhere that habitat restoration has ocurred- bird populations can bounce back. Living in the lower mainland, we can attest to the rapid growth and destruction of habitat. Just so we can have 4000 sq ft homes. Cliff Backyard Birding Stores Abbotsford & Chilliwack

Certainly an alarming and frightening read.
Encouraging to know that we can do something to help, but maybe frightening to think perhaps it could be easy to be lax in doing something knowing this.
It isnt reasonable to say no more development and so forth, but Id like to think it is reasonable to ask that steps be made to compensate through habitat restoration and preserves. Always seems to be plenty of land to take out of the ALR for a house; maybe just one (or two?) could go towards the wildlife one day?
