Len: Thanks for forwarding Howard's story about birding alone. I actually replied to him, as his e-mail address was included in the story. He gives good advice, but I wonder how many of us crazy birders would act on his advice. I actually wiped out on a jetty on my southern birding excursion too. I walked the the jetty on South Padre Island, chasing a Purple Sandpiper. At the end of the jetty the rocks were getting more slippery, and down I went. Luckily, I did not fall into one of the cracks between the large flattened boulders, that made up the structure, but it could have happened. Always good to be careful, but I guess all of life is some kind of risk or another. Thor
