A friend sent me this from the north end of Kootenay Lake. It was 30' or so up a tree. The box itself is about 10' high with a entrance hole about 4". He nor I have ever seen anything like it. I wonder if it could be for a Martin or Fisher or some other mammal. Or simply is for an owl or woodpecker or ?.

Gord, that is a nest box for Vaux's Swift. Dick Cannings was on the radio last week and a caller was describing this unusual shaped nest box and wondered what it could possibly be for. Someone from up there called to say that they have been tried elsewhere with good results and so this is considered experimental thus far.

Thanks Murray! I can see now how they might work for swifts. Neat!
