Today I briefly checked in on the colony at McDonald Park in east Abbotsford to see if there was any action. Last year 6 nests were active and at least two three nests had fairly large young in them. Im not sure if any were confirmed fledged. Today, however, there was no action. There were seven nests easily seen in the cottonwoods but no birds. Hope that perhaps they were just all away and are still planning to breed. Last week I saw some exciting signs of a potential colony starting at Cheam Lake again. They had nests some years ago until the trees were cut down. I think they tried again nearby but did not take. Anyway, in two trees on the lake's southern shore I counted 16 birds!! From my vantage point I could not see where they might be nesting. Interestingly what first caught my eye were several flying fairly low from the mountain (Bridal Falls area) towards the lake to end up in the trees where I would later count them. Might be worth checking around where I saw them coming from next time.

Great find Gord, I'll be sure to check that out each time I'm there. As you know they are in trouble and any new nesting area is a positive sign.
