The wetlands were very quiet this afternoon around 5ish, perhaps because the first bird seen was a Sharp-shinned Hawk. While walking, I saw the hawk make several passes through the wetlands woods along the Loop Trail, creating havoc with the chickadees. For the record: 20+ Vaux's Swifts 2 Stellar's Jay 4 Robins 20+Black-capped Chickadees 1 Black-throated Gray Warbler 8 Juvenile White-crowned Sparrows 1 Downy Woodpecker 1 Hairy Woodpecker 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 Belted Kingfisher 10+ Pied-billed Grebe A bunch of Canada Geese 30+ Ring-Necked Ducks 12+ Wood Ducks Some Mallards I saw several beaver as well - they were very active, and one came real close, hauling itself onto a log to chew on a branch. (I didn't dare rise above the cattails to get a better picture.)

Wow! Great pictures of the beaver! Should print one off to prove to park visitors we have beavers in the lake.
