Kathy, I was looking at my records and see that often I would get Evening Grosbeaks at my feeder during this time as well. Often I wouldnt see any all winter until spring.

Our evening grosbeaks finally arrived yesterday !!(we're up on the top of Promontory) A month later than last year, almost to the day. About 15-20 of them, with one black headed one in there for a change of scenery. Does anyone know if the black headed ones kind of "hang out" with the evening ones? We had the same thing last year, a whole bunch of evening grosbeaks with 1 or 2 black headed ones in the mix.
