To anyone who might know,
I'm wondering if the herons have started returning to their nests at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve yet this year?
Thanks, --Jeff

Jeff, I would bet, despite the snow... that they'd be getting into nesting mode over the last week or two. A nice time to see them before the leaves start to grow in on the trees. A great source for up-to-date info on the nests is Bruce and Joanne's site. www.butterflyonmyshoulder.ca/Journal/03_09/03_09-08.htm

Janet Hutchinson, who works for the GBHNR, told me last Wednesday, March 4th, when I saw her at the Film Fest in Chilliwack that the GB Herons were back. Janne Perrin Harrison Hot Springs

The Great Blue Herons have taken a temporary break from nesting to shelter from the Arctic front in any area that is out of the wind. We are sure that they will follow their nesting instincts when the temperatures rise again. The first two photos on our journal show them huddled in sheltered spots today while the nests remained empty: www.butterflyonmyshoulder.ca/Journal/03_09/03_09-11.htm
