Prior to visiting Canada briefly, we took a detour through SE Asia for some sun, beaches, and of course birds. We stayed at a few different locations throughout the trip and managed to identify about 220 species, of which about 160 were new life birds! So the Asia list has grown a bit and as time allows, I will get it organized. I am sure that a trip exclusively to Thailand and exclusively focussed on bird-watching would compile a massive list! Our birding was more casual, with some target species sprinkled in. My main target was Spoon-billed Sandpiper and I saw it!!!! Some of the fun of going to a completely new area is seeing similar species of birds to the known families one is used to. The other fun is seeing complete new families of birds. I experienced plenty of both during our stay. As an example, here are some kingfishers for now. Black-capped Kingfisher Brown-winged Kingfisher Collared Kingfisher Pied Kingfisher White-throated Kingfisher All for now, Dave Beeke

Must go and shovel strange white stuff that fell on the sidewalk but had to say that that is a very, very impressive array of Kingfishers! We are very envious! Great work, Dave!

Maria, I hear you!! Our kingfisher species is sort of tough to photograph. Not very calm!
Dave, great shots. Always delighted to see new stuff from you when you get time to put them up.

Boy Dave, you saw a lot of birds for a casual trip!! Thanks for sharing your experiences, and pictures. I will try to post a few pictures of my Calif/Arizona/New Mexico/Texas trip when I get back, but they won't match yours. I've been intimidated by all the Canon D40's, with 400mm lenses. Murray, and Brian, I have only seen one Nikon on this trip. Do these Yanks know something you don't, or vice versa? Still trying to find that Feruginous Pygmy Owl in Texas, Thor

Thor, the answer to your question is, take a look at Gord's Nikon photos! Enjoying your trip reports and am envious of your great finds. Keep em coming.
