I'm just wondering what birds others are getting at their feeders. The last few days I've had Pine Sisken show up for the first time since last summer. Started out with 1 and right now I think there are 12 out there. This morning I had one lone Chestnut back Chickadee, the first since before Christmas and only the 2nd time this winter (didn't have any last winter). Black Cap Chickadees visit occasionally (maybe one a week) although I hear them in the general area.
I had a pair of Evening Grosbeak, one day, weeks ago. Varied Thrush and Fox Sparrow show up with the snow and disappear as soon as the snow thins out. The same time the Sisken appeared, House Finch showed up with as many as 9 yesterday, so far today there have been none.
My regulars are Steller's Jay, Song Sparrow, Towhee, and a few Junco, sometimes only 2 or 3 other times the place is hopping with them. Most days 1 White Crowned Sparrow shows up, very rarely 2. A Flicker shows up now and then as well. Red Wing Blackbirds come enmasse most days and 4 or 5 Starlings have been coming recently to the suet.
It just seems very sporadic. I have had 2 reports from other people in the area that they have had in one case, one and the other case, two 'Pigeons' at their feeders. I'm not sure if that means Band Tails (which would unusual here this early) or Rock Doves which would also be unusual for here. There has also been a report of a Stellers Jay badly infected with Scaley leg mites, but otherwise in apparent good health.
