Please Help ID, Outside this afternoon and a large hawk chased a flicker through the yard. Due to size, I flashed Red-tailed, but immediately saw an accipiter tail and wings. They went over the barn roof and circled back toward me and ripped through a big maple and the flicker got away and the hawk perched. Got inside and grabbed my Bins... thinking to myself "that's the biggest Cooper's I've ever seen". As soon as I got the bins on it, the eyebrow jumped right out at me. The Cap on the head was very small. It was a Juvie, and it was so big, and with the eyebrow, I went and got the camera. A Red-tailed was in another tree for size comparison, and it was just as big or bigger. A Goshawk would be a lifer... Wishful thinking?

WOW!! Unless someone else has some thoughts but the size and 'beefy' look combined with white eyebrow and what look to be thinner and uneven tail banding look very promising. That speckled look on the wings/back look great too! The streaking on the breast is nice as well but as it can be variable not much use outside of supporting fieldmarks which it would be. All what you saw in the field are good fieldmarks as well.
Im thinking congrats on a lifer is in store!!! ;D ;D ;D
If you have chickens, lock them up!! ;D
