I'm always amazed by the spectacular photos posted on this website! I want to purchase a digital SLR...preferably Canon as this is the type of camera I'm familiar with....any suggestions from anyone? Perhaps models to avoid as well would be helpful advice. Thanks

That's an easy one...Get the Mark III Seriously now, every photographer will push his own familiar brand but the truth is that most modern DSLR's are good. Most of them have vibration reduction and some have it in the camerabody which means that you can buy lenses without the VR, which will save you money. I would suggest two things to you... 1. Get the best quality lens you can afford. (I love prime lenses) 2. Look for for weathersealing on camera AND lens. (Very useful in bird photography!) Now, if you have a lot of money sitting around, DO check out the Mark III. Just think what you could do with a camera which fires of 10 frames per second! ;D Happy shopping!
