Murray, did you see the Horned Grebes off Greenpoint (Sasquatch Park)? We got them there on Dec. 15 on the Harrison River Count as we have for the past few years. I often see them off the lagoon too but not this week. On the 10th, 11th, and 12th in the pouring rain, I saw 1 LONG-TAILED DUCK, 2 RUDDY DUCKS and 2 CANVASBACKS on Harrison Lake -the Long-tailed & Ruddys just off the lagoon and the Canvasbacks in the bay beside the seaplane dock. On the 11th one RING-NECKED DUCK was in the flock of L. Scaup. My new (a Xmas gift) Pentax 80 mm angled scope with 8-24 mm eyepiece scope picked that out for me but I had to keep drying it off. Yesterday as it wasn’t raining, I took it again to try to digiscope but as luck has it none of these birds were to be seen. The flock of 100 Lesser Scaup still loitered in the bay with 3 American Wigeon on the periphery where the Canvasback had been. The lagoon remains ice bound but 40 CANADA GEESE, some sleeping and others feeding (on what I wondered), flocked there until I shouldered my scope. On spying this they all took off to the safety of the lake. I assume they thought it was a gun. Janne Perrin Harrison Hot Springs

Add American Goldfinch, seen January 22, in the west end of Greendale near the end of South Sumas Road. They were at a feeder.

Nice, Jeff. Not always easily found in the winter.

Not a bad list for January. I think we fell a little short of last year's though. Tomorrow evening I should have our stats uploaded.
If anyone spots a species that was missed, point it out!
