Just a note about our two newest additions to our checklist area. The Northern Hawk Owl was new to the checklist (might be some old records from 1900's but I have not looked through them all yet). The pleasant surprise for the other addition came late last week. I was browsing Butterfly on my Shoulder's site and did a double take at one photo from Sept 3, 2007 at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. A juv Lark Sparrow! Wow! www.butterflyonmyshoulder.ca/Journal/09_07/Journal_09_07.htmlPosted with permission, is the great photo. It does not get much better than that! Good job guys. This sparrow is not widespread in BC and is pretty much restricted to the Okanagan area where I believe it carries an endangered species label. Seeing this bird anywhere outside of the Okanagan is certainly of note. Updating the checklist is also pending along with the website but I think we're at 300 birds for the area with this newest addition!
