Funny, we have a tail-less Junco over here too. In fact ours has even less of a tail than this one. He looks like a little quail running around.

He's really cute... Is he the only Junco you have visiting? I have dozens in my garden at the moment and as there are also sparrows and chickadees feeding and flocking with them I had assumed they were quite gregarious. I know they are basically ground feeders but I have had them hanging off my nut feeder/seed feeder/suet blocks this week so they can obviously improvise. I think they must learn this behavior by watching the sparrows and chickadees using these feeders... one of the benefits of gregarious behavior I guess.

i also have a dozen or more juncos lots of white crowned sparrows (one with a stubby tail as well) and chickadee's, also a first time visitor for me yesterday a fox sparow. last year none of my juncos would leave the ground, but this year i counted 7 juncos on and around one suet block yeterday, i think due to the cold weather they are in need of a little extra fat in the diet.
