From Island 22 I saw a flock of six fly over which was a nice fall sight. I stopped in at Cheam Lake and there were 38 of them there! Only two families though, but above average (three and four young). Also here were lots of cackling geese among the Canada Geese. I cannot believe how these guys have increased in numbers and I know it is not just because they are a species now and Im just noticing them. There was also a Greater White-fronted Goose among them. Blue-winged Teal continue here as well and I counted four!! I saw one by itself further out and mused a picture would be kind of nice for a late October sighting. Excitingly enough, three swam by the viewing platform for some photos. A Northern Shoveler swam by feeding very cooperatively. The scenery was really nice in the late afternoon sun. Many of the geese took off as the sun set to probably feed on the fields before dark. Back to Island 22 (might as well combine the reports) I saw a gull in the boat launch that turned out to be a Thayer's Gull! I have been watching for one for the whole month. It was pretty tame too letting me get quite close until I decided I should have a camera. When I got back, this Glaucous-winged Gull decided to give chase. Oh well, nice wing pattern shot. On a sandbar near by I saw another Thayer's, three Herring Gull adults glared with yellow eyes and a first winter California Gull rounded out the gulls. Also here were three Western Grebes. What a beautiful fall day!!

Gord....absolutely love that second 'scenery' shot! Five Trumpeters flew up the Harrison River this morning from Harrison Bay. Heard and then saw them as I was searching the flats for the Sandhill Crane I could hear out there. Never did spot the Cranes.

My husband said there were at least a hundred Swans on Harrison Bay when he went by there tonight on his way home from work.
