Hi all: I just finished a fascinating bird book called " The Last Flight of the Scarlet Macaw ", by Bruce Barcott; ISBN #978-1-4000-6293-5; Random House Publishers. I bought it from that on-line book company named after the big South American River!! I also made a request to purchase with the Fraser Valley Regional Library, as, currently, it is not in their catalougue. If others belong to this library, and wish to make a request to purchase for this book , all the pertinent information is listed above. Having recently returned from southern Mexico, and seen a number of these birds, I was naturally interested in a book with this title. It is a real " page turner ". I basically read it in two nights. It is a fascinating account of one woman's battle to save the habitat for this bird in Belize. Being a bird of very high demand in the pet trade, it has been extirpated from much of its Central American Habitat. Also, it has very particular nesting requirements, so habitat destruction is also a major factor in its demise. It is not so much a story about the bird, as much as the human beings that ultimately determine the fate of so many animal species. I have never been to Belize, but feel I now have a rudimentary understanding of how enviromental decisions are made in developing countries like this. A two thumbs up from this reader. Cheers, Thor
