This morning, Oct. 17th, as we drove south on Appel Rd toward the Fraser, we spotted a large, whitish bird sitting in a ploughed field. I knew it wasn't a gull, and my first thought was Black-shouldered Kite, but as I grabbed for the camera, along came a 4x4 in a huge hurry and flushed the bird. As soon as it took wing I saw it's powerful build and long wings and realized I had my first ever, White-morph Gyr. We lost sight of it but my wife suggested we go hunting for it in the direction it had flown and sure enough there it was again in another field about a kilometer to the west. I did manage to obtain some long distance photos but they are really only suitable for I.D. purposes. Thor and I may go looking for it this afternoon. Murray
