Had a Common Loon out on the slough last night and again this morning. I've never seen a loon on our slough... even during highwater. Also on way to the river this morning, the gravel section of Tuyttens Rd. by the blueberry field, I spooked 2 Meadowlarks (I'm assuming western) and they flew off into the grass of the hayfield opposite the blueberrys and they were invisible. I parked the car at the river and walked back up the road, but all I could see were lots of Savanah, White-crowned and the odd song sparrow with goldfinches. Down closer to the river it was pretty quiet due to wind, but did see a Merlin looking for breakfast.

Good find on the meadowlarks! We're on the way to beating May's record on the bird challenge. I think the meadowlarks are species 154 for the month. Two more days to go! Surely a Mountain Bluebird will pop up as we're in prime time for one now.
