Hi all: As Lynn mentioned in her post under General Discussion, a mega rarity has shown up in south-central Washington near Othello/Walla Walla. Specifically, a South American bird, the Variegated Flycatcher. It was seen, and photographed, on Saturday, and Sunday in Windust Park off route 263. I'm crazy enough, ( as usual ), to consider chasing it, if it sticks around. I have another field trip scheduled, which means that the earliest I could probably chase this bird is Thursday, or Friday. If anyone is also this crazy, and wants to go on one of those days, you can send me an e-mail. Despite the distance, I am looking on it as a day trip. Cheers, Thor

Hi Thor,
I would be able to chase this on Thursday. I could leave as early as three or four AM and would help with the cost of gas if you decide to try for it.

I certainly would like to throw my hat and gas money into the ring but wont be able to. Good luck to you both!
Amazing sight. The birder who saw it must have wondered if they were dreaming. I always think it's interesting how such birds make it to where they are. Small birds are understandable, but still it must have passed through several states before ending up here. Same with that Caracara from Prince George from a couple weeks ago. It had to have began its journey somewhere around Texas, passed through all the states and southern BC (or up Alberta, around the north of the Rockies...who knows) and finally some farmer cutting hay noticed it.
I guess my point is what else is kicking around waiting to be discovered? Sure adds an element of intrigue to every birding outing.

Lynn: I am sure you have been following Tweeters, and it looks like the bird has moved on. If this changes, I will get back to you. Cheers, Thor

Hi Thor,
Hopefully it will show up again today or tomorrow. I will keep myself apprised of the situation and contact you via this post should anything change.
Thankyou, Lynn
