Good couple of days birding... what's with all the fledglings? I'm still seeing Am. Goldfinches, Pine Siskins and Cedar Waxwings begging the folks for handouts!!! Lots of Warblers around. Over the past 2 days we've seen Common Yellowthroats, Yellows, Yellow-rumps (both kinds), Wilson's, Black-throated Greys, MacGillivrays, and Orange Crowned. Most per day, 6. Tuesday got 8 Bushtits passing along the sloughbank. Today had a Peregrine fly over as well as Red-tailed and a juvie Bald Eagle circling with 6 Turkey Vultures. Along the Fraser River, 3 Turkey Vultures were sunning themselves. The Highlight of the day... Marion spotted something odd drop onto the roof of our garden shed next to the house. A Common Nighthawk. ;D It showed up about 10:30am and hung around until 12:30pm. We had to go to Abbotsford and unfortunately had to get in the car. We disturbed it enough that it flew off and up. I looked up and it joined 2 other Nighthawks flying overhead. ;D ;D ;D The 3 were with a batch of violet green, tree and barn swallows hawking insects and they moved off slowly toward the river. After looking at my Sibley's I wonder if this is another Juvie?

Right on guys! Great photos both of you! Ive never seen them perched and only handled one that got hit by a car up in Merritt. Dad said they were sitting (roosting) right on the road and he had to be careful. Sadly someone else was not so careful. Yesterday afternoon there was this one flying over Sumas Prairie. Lots of Common Nighthawks around lately! Kevin, not sure about juvenile or adult on those guys so sorry, no help there.

Quite the movement of these guys as well last couple of days. I find interesting the midday sightings. Usually they're seen in the evening. Thanks for the sighting Jemaljaars!
