Im wondering if there is interest in a birding walk (or two) to Island 22 in the coming week. I think I will post dates where I am available and see what interest comes of them. Times can be decided in more detail when it is realized how many are coming. Im considering having two start times possibly. One for the insane (7:00 am) and then one for the more sane (8:30)
Thursday Sept 4
Wednesday Sept 10
Saturday Sept 13
I picture these being very relaxed outings to see what we can get into our binoculars. No experience needed. Myself and others will certainly be more than willing to help with identification and stuff as desired, but there's no pressure or anything. The mosquitoes are all but gone, and the terrain is friendly. Often, when we get a good flock of migrants, we will find a good location to watch them as they pass by. Very low key but lots of fun when you have a ton of birds all around.
Look forward to getting out on one or two of these!

Hi Gord,
I would be interested in the 13th at 7:00 a.m. (insane...possibly:-)).

Bill, after getting out to Island 22 on Monday just after 8 I realized that much sooner might not have been very worthwhile. Im thinking that 8:30 start would be ok as the days are shorter. Hope you did not have morning plans or anything. We are flexible so as we get a clearer picture of who's coming we can finalize times better to suit the day better. Sept 4, 8:30 - Gord, Stan, Marijke Sept 13, 8:30 (?) - Gord, Bill As I looks like I wont get to posting a report from yesterday's birding, here's a couple photos from the morning to whet appetites. ;D

Update for the 13th. Ryan, Bill and myself so far. Im thinking that perhaps 8am might be ok at this point to find middle ground between insane and sane. I think, given the light conditions, that 8 will be prime. All not set in stone so ideas and thoughts welcome. Anyone welcome so dont be shy!

Ziff, sorry not to have got back to you, but looks like you found it ok.
Look forward to seeing you, Thor!
Today it was quite busy with birds everywhere I went. I was not really birding but recorded 40 species all the same. Certainly due for some sort of goody in the way of an uncommon warbler or maybe something a little more bizarre!
I should also mention that the mosquitoes have sort of come back thanks to that wet spell in late Aug. They are certainly very tolerable but if someone has any mosquito repellent left over, they may want to bring it in case. Im pretty lucky that even when they bite, the itch only lasts a few minutes. This is nice as I dislike wearing repellent but also dont like getting bitten and helping sustain the mosquito population. I got two bites and swatted about 20 today.
