Hi all: Went birding today with Dominic Mitchell, managing editor of Birdwatch Magazine in London, England. We checked out a few areas around Lightning Lake, Beaver Pond, and then up to the alpine by Blackwell Meadow. Hiked the Heather Trail down to the picnic/camping area, but then had to turn around because of time constraints; so no chance for any ptarmingan today. Dominic had a few lifers he was chasing, and we managed to find three of them. Clarke's Nutcracker was, naturally a gimme, and we were fortunate to see Cassin's Finch, and a female Sooty Grouse with chick. Other birds seen, in no particular order, Common Loon, Mallard Duck, Audubon's Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, Townsend's Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Red-tailed Hawk, Dark eyed Junco, American Robin, Pine Siskin, Grey Jay, Red Crossbill, Northern Flicker, Fox Sparrow, Mountain Chickadee, Boreal Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch. Interestingly, the flicker was the only woodpecker we saw, so Red-naped Sapsucker will be a lifer Dominic will have to save for another trip. Cheers, Thor
Thor Manson Hope, B.C.

Nice report. The Boreal Chickadee is always a good find. I thought the Flicker as the only woodpecker interesting as well! I always say that missing a target bird is a good thing in that you have an excuse to go back.
