Am just wondering if others are noticing the number of very young fledglings still around this late in the season. In the past couple of days I've had very young Siskens show up (still being fed), last night a new family of Junco's appeared in the yard. I've had a White Crowned Sparrow busy feeding a cowbird fledgling (cowbirds disappeared from around here weeks ago!) and right now there is a Black Headed Grosbeak busy shoving food down a fledgling with another older youngster at the feeders. It just seems late for so many really young birds to be around. A neighbour reported a young family of Steller's Jay a few days ago. Maybe it was the late spring that caused the delay?
Won't be able to follow through on it 'cause we are heading off again tomorrow....headed back to Alberta....this time to Kananaski's and possibly as far as Writing on Stone. Will be gone for a couple of weeks - last trip for this year.

I think you're on to something, Kathy. We've got a couple of moms and a bunch of fledgling Evening Grosbeaks for the last 4 days straight. Also noticed a Black-headed Grosbeak fledgling just this morning and an adult Spotted Sandpiper with what looked like 2 fledglings. Also for the past week, 2 Osprey, with one seeming to be a juvenile.

Ive noticed it too. I saw a Brown-headed Cowbird getting fed by a Willow Flycatcher at Island 22. This morning two little Barn Swallows on the wires at the house were getting fed by adults. Lots of young Cedar Waxwings getting fed but they're often a little later it seems.
Oh yes, and that Wood Duck hen with the two quite young ducklings. They're close to getting more feathers then down, but are still in that cute duckling stage over the gangly look when they're more adult than baby.
I think the late spring is to be considered for this too.
Enjoy your trip, Kathy. Look forward to hearing about your trip when you get back.
