"Internet bird database in works"

Hi All-
Just read an article in today's Vancouver Sun (Jan. 17/08)about a database being set up to track BC breeding birds. Scientists are tracking changes in bird species (we have more than 300 species who breed in BC). The rest of the article can be read in its entirety at the link pasted below.

i was going to post this later but since the discussion is starting now i might as well get the word out.
i am the regional coordinator for the british columbia breeding bird atlas for the chilliwack-hope area. this is a huge project that will start this spring and continue for the next five years. i will be looking for volunteers to help search out breeding birds and document them with forms that will be provided. each volunteer will be assigned an area 10 km x 10 km (close to where you live

as i was writing, each volunteer will be assigned an area 10km x 10km(close to where you live) and to look for breeding birds for a minimum of 20 hours each spring. it is a great way to get to know an area intimately and have some fun doing it. if you are interested you can go to the bc breeding bird atlas website: www.birdatlas.bc.ca and register and find out more information. you can also contact me at [e-mail] or give me a call 604 858 8398. i will be holding a meeting with all the volunteers for the chilliwack-hope area as the spring gets closer to discuss areas and other particulars. birders of all levels are welcome. also, all postings on this site will be extremely useful.

Hi Jason...I had already signed up when I was sent the info via Ryan on the Eagle Festival website. Hadn't realized the area covered by each was quite that large....but am still interested although Ernie and I will be gone for most of March...which might be bad timing...but keep me posted.
