Yes, fellow birders, you have read that correctly. As of August 19, My wife, son and I will be on the plane to Jinshitan, China, where we will live and I plan to teach for one year, returning to Chilliwack in July 2009. As some of you know, my brother and his wife have been living in China for several years now, and we plan to move to the same area that they are living in. I will be teaching at the same school, Jinshitan Maple Leaf High School, a Grades 10-12 school of 2350 students. Birds? Well, Northeast China is not really well-known for birds, but we are on the coast, and my brother has scouted out some promising looking areas. I have picked up two field guides and plan to do some birding and keep a personal China list of birds once we have settled in. Fraser Valley Birding? Once in China, my brother has also informed me that access to this website is rather sporadic, due to Chinese internet controls. So I will not be able to be a regular contributor to all the great discussions on this site, something I will definitely miss this next year. If I do get access from time to time, I will not be adding anything to "Local Birding Reports" , but may pop up once in a while to congratulate you all on great sightings in the valley. Well, we have two more weeks in Chilliwack, just enough time for a Northern Pygmy Owl All the best, Dave Beeke

Dave, look forward to your updates as you get a chance to share them. But we have one more birding outing to go yet before you go. Pygmy-owl is on the menu. I cant think of much of a better send-off (aside from seeing a waterthrush too at the same time )

What a great experience! Good Luck, Dave. And if you get through the "thought police" nonsense, please post the occasional "Out of Town" report for us!!!
