I went to Manning Park Wednesday and came back today at 2. The weather was awesome. Wasn't to warm to hike.
I got there around 3:00 on Wednesday and hiked around the second half of Lightning lake. Did not see much besides some common birds. Came back and saw a Pileated Woodpecker in the back of our campsite. I didn't do much that night because I was really tired.
I was planning on waking up early but had a terrible sleep due to my sick dog. I was going to walk some of Heather Trail but instead walked half way up Poland Lake. Saw a mother Sooty Grouse with her babies. A lot of grouse were drumming all Sooty Grouse. I believed I saw a Grey-crowned Rosy Finch at the top but I am not 100% certain.
Didn't do much for the rest of the day except for take a nap. Just by reading the signs throughout the campground it seems that there were more bears than normal. I didn't see many bear scats though and no bears.
Woke up early this morning and walked around the second half of lightning lake again. I saw some Lincoln's Sparrows as well as some Townsend's Warblers. I have seen them before but got some really good looks this morning. There were five loons on the lake this morning. Such a beautiful bird. Also saw five Three Toed Woodpeckers.
Went up to walk some of Heather trail. I haven't been up there in years and walked about an hour of the trail. It looks like an awesome hike. Didn't see many birds but the hike was beautiful and would love to do more of it.
Didn't have good luck with the birds but still had an awesome time. No pine Grosbeak's which I thought was weird because I usually see them.
