Geeze, Im not sure. They are close to Barn Owls but then something does not sound right (unless they're young ones). Barn Owls (adults anyway) have more of a 'shushing/raspy' sound to their call. Similar to that but add a little 'shushing' like if we're shushing someone at the movie theater. OR if you do a long, hard pishing sound. Pretend you're annoyed at a bird that wont come to your pishing so you do one last long hard PiiiiiiSSSSSHHHHHH!! before giving up. ;D
I thought Common Nighthawk but they are more buzzy/nasal I think.
Come to think of it, these call notes are the ones I described from Island 22 last year. Im pretty sure that's the same one and Im not sure what they are. I think they are something flying overhead though.
I eagerly await other peoples thoughts or comments! Kev, glad you got a recording of this!

Yes, it's a puzzlement... I'll keep an eye open after dark, Barn Owl silouettes are distinctive, and I've seen them often enough to know them.

Hi Wetlander, I will try to post the fledgling begging snore from my Cornell lab of Ornithology Library Owl Voices CD on photobucket. I have to look up the instructions as I haven't posted for a long time. Janne

Photobucket won't let me post a sound file. Anyone know what I need to do to post a ".cda" sound file?
