Going to be very busy at the Harrison Festival for the next little while, so wanted to get some alone time out on the land. Heat & Mosquitos... oh well. Fledlings everywhere ;D Too many cowbirds, starlings and house sparrows... oh well. Still see the Kestrels hanging around, but no sign of fledglings yet. Lots of Mallards and Wood Ducks with juvies... and a few Blue-winged Teals hanging around, but no sign of juvies. Juvenile GB Heron: this beauty seemed to glow vs. a worn adult, so I'm assuming Juvie, but could be molt? Willow Flycatcher: Been a good year for flycatchers. Lots of PeeWees as usual. We've had lots of Willow Flycatchers (above), a few Hammond's and the Least Flycatcher continues at the far end of the island. Plus the Eastern Kingbirds are chattering away and keeping everyone on their toes. I known they're fairly common, but we rarely see Brewer's Blackbirds in the area, so this fellow was a pleasant surprise on Saturday morning. Speaking of fledglings, something about this pair of Hairy Woodpeckers made me think that the upside down one was mom and the one on the top of the branch was a fledgling. I've been watching a Downey Woodpecker hole with a fledgling peeping away for a week or so. Spotted them on Sunday morning at the suet block, mom feeding a fledge. And after trying for weeks, finally got a few photos of one of the 2 or 3 Sora that have been around all month.
