This morning I was awoken by a family of young House Sparrows outside my window so I thought I should really get cracking on the breeding bird atlas.
The most notable stop was at this little park in north Chilliwack called Corbould Park at the north end of Corbould Rd. It is part of the Hope River Rotory Trail. There is lots of potential at this little place. People's backyards many birdy looking and most with nice privacy fences/trees, back on the trail. Beyond the trail is the Hope River (slough) and a lot of nice riparian habitat.
I found plenty of birds. One interesting sighting was a family of Golden-crowned Kinglets feeding in the big cedar trees. Looked to be a pair of adults and at least three young not long out of the nest. I think this is the lowest elevation Ive ever found this species breeding. A Cooper's Hawk silenced things momentarily as it went over with a small bird in its talons. Two Green Herons went flying past and landed in the slough. I was only able to get a good look at one which was an adult. I did not see where the other landed.
A very nice little park that is a very easy and accessible walk with plenty of birding opportunity.
