Ziff, hi and welcome!!
The Evening Grosbeaks seem to have moved along as far as Ive seen. Im sure more than a few people, while enjoying their presence, breathed a sigh of relief as the birdseed bill was big from them! This is typical for the species who do wander around a lot and are off to breed at this time of year.
There seems to be lots of Black-headed Grosbeaks about. Some people have reported them at feeders that have never seen them before. Do you get them often?

hi gord ,yes we have 3 pairs, and 2 pairs hairy and downy woodpeckers, and a piliated passes through. Also house finches, jays, a group of cedar waxwings now ,great grey owls passed through a few times over the years. i am an active hiker and never paid too much attention to birds unless they were close, but now i have some good binos i'm amazed at the number of birds i'm unfamiliar with. i like this site,[ i would have found it sooner , but if you google bird watching nothing comes up], i've always been curious as what others are seeing.

Hi Jeff thats a lot of grosbeaks , seems a lot of these birds prefer the chilliwack area. its nice to hear that our 'regulars' are so widespread. what sort of feeder arrangement do you have for that many?

ziff honestly, this is the first year i have ever had more than one Evening Grosbeak at my place.. the abundance of them is what encouraged me to join this forum. As far as my feeder goes.. it will only hold about 6 grosbeaks but, i also have several seed bells, a woodpecker bar and suet hanging from the trees (only a few grosbeaks like the suet), the key to having so many is all in the feed i think... Black Sunflower Seeds, Apparently they can eat up to 90 seeds each in 5 minutes. (hard on the pocketbook but well worth it). we were throwing sunflowower seeds on the ground by the barell full. i hope so many of them come back next year, they provided hours of entertainment for us. ;

The birds are wonderfull aren't they, its better than Hawaii. I think the feeders attract birds which attract more birds ,as i did a walk of the matsqui trail and decided we have more around home.
