JohnV and I hiked up to Lindeman Lake in the partial rain today. It was great to be back on that beautiful trail again after not hiking it for many years. The purpose of today's quick hike was to scout it out for a future school hike. (Ah, the joys of getting paid to bird ) We started off with a Hammond's Flycatcher and Wilson's Warblers in the early section of the trail. Winter Wren soon made its presence known throughout the trail. Once at the lake, we spotted a female Common Merganser cruising around, as well as numerous Barn and Tree Swallows. The hike along the side of the lake and some awesome habitat on the far side of Lindeman Lake produced more Hammond's Flycatchers, Wilson's Warblers, some Yellow-rumped Warblers, Swainson's Thrush, Rufous Hummingbird, a Warbling Vireo, Song Sparrow, American Robin, Pine Siskin, and an entertaining Crow. We heard some drumming noise that sure sounded like a Blue Grouse, but failed to spot the noise maker. North end of Lindeman Lake Some the habitat at the north end. Plenty of hummingbirds around. A great day to be outside, even though there were a few showers here and there. Dave
